Maybe Patrick sensed Athrun’s worry about him and didn’t like it.
When Patrick had given a sigh while talking with other people about current situation earlier, Athrun was looking at his father with a worried face. Well, it’s possible he acted like that partly because he didn’t like other people worrying about him or comforting him. He acted as if he didn’t want anything personal between Athrun and himself. Maybe Patrick was big on acting appropriately and liked to draw a line between official affairs and private affairs.īut he didn’t have to be so cold. Patrick gave Athrun an accusing look and disapproved of his attitude.Īthrun quickly apologized and called his father “Chairman Zala, sir.” In GS episode 34, Athrun called him Father. In GS episode 40, he risked his life and went back to PLANT to talk to Patrick.īut there had been a clear strain between the father and son, and it seemed to be Patrick’s fault rather than Athrun’s. And Klueze doesn’t strike me as a person who makes you feel greatly at ease, though he was certainly good at manipulation.Īthrun cared about his father. It seems like he felt at more ease with his commander than with his father. Not that Athrun was greatly distressed by the news of Lacus missing, but still.Īfter Patrick left, Athrun cynically said to Klueze, “So I’m supposed to rescue her and return like a hero, right?” even though he had been rather obedient while his father was there (GS episode 8). He either didn’t think Athrun was genuinely concerned for his missing fiancée, or didn’t care about how Athrun was feeling. In GS episode 8, telling Athrun to go and search for Lacus who was missing, Patrick only talked about appearance and Lacus being an idol. Yet, he said nothing, let alone comforted Athrun.
In GS episode 7, with Patrick present, Athrun and Klueze talked about Kira and Klueze referred to Kira as “your own friend.” So Patrick was aware of Athrun’s situation, that his son was fighting against his friend, even if he had not known it before. Patrick’s attitude toward Athrun is actually similar, except that Patrick never clearly showed care for Athrun. In part 3 of this analysis, I explored Dullindal’s attitude toward Athrun. Since I talked about Cagalli’s relationship with her father in the last article, I’d also like to talk about Athrun’s relationship with his father here.Īs Cagalli’s accepting attitude seemed to be influenced by her father, Athrun’s “If you don’t obey me, you are worthless to me” attitude seemed to be influenced by his father as well.
